Part of being a ‘good’ teacher is being able to conduct professional research and having an understanding of what is means to “do history”. Although this course was called “Introduction to Canadian History”, the course provided much more than just information on Canada’s history, it gave me the tools necessary to engage in research and understand the complicated dynamics of the discipline of history and how it intertwines with education.

For our final assignment, we were given an assignment that allowed us to pick anyone or anything between a certain time period in Canada to research. As an aspiring teacher, I figured this would be a great opportunity for me to learn more about Canada’s history of education. While researching, I stumbled across a woman named Marguerite Bourgeoys, Montreal’s first teacher. Under this tab of my site, you can find some of the notes I took for my research on this historical and honorable woman.
