Prior to entering the Elementary Education Program, I didn’t know what a lesson plan was, let alone have the knowledge to develop one. After being introduced to what they are and how they are used, I think it took me about 20 hours to create my first lesson. I can confidently say that over the last two semesters, I have been able to cut that production time down drastically. I now understand the purpose, the components, and have learned some tips and tricks to help the planning process become more efficient and effective. That said, I’m still learning every day, and am looking forward to putting my planning into action during my first face-to-face practicum. Here is example of my progress in terms of lesson planning and development.
- This lesson plan (Please, Please ‘Bee’ Grateful and Thankful), based off of the book Please, Please, the Bees, is my very first lesson plan. Although it took me far too long to create, I am still pleased with it and is something I would love to implement in the classroom.
2. My second example (One in a Melon) is one of my most recent unit plans, which includes five lessons with the overarching goal of students focusing on their individual identity, and the identity of the class as a whole.
